UNIVERSITY OF CEBU-BANILAD

 

 

A group of young men and women, with the vision and foresight spurred by altruistic motives to help mold the moral and intellectual life of the youth, banded themselves together to form an educational institution - the University of Cebu-Banilad.

 

August 2001

Construction of UC-Banilad Phase 1 began

June 2002

-

Completion of building UC-Banilad Phase 1

The system for academic and non-academic departments, offices, faculty rooms and classrooms was set.

Opening of UC-Banilad with curricular offerings in Law, Accountancy, Commerce, Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Information Technology, and Nursing


2003

-

Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) approved the permanent transfer of the program of the nursing course to UC-Banilad.

April 2003

Renna Rachel Go, Cheryl Divinagracia, and Anne Lorraine Lee placed 12th, 16th, and 20th, respectively, in the Nursing Licensure Examination.

2004

UC-Banilad tied up with SMART Wireless Education Program (SWEEP).

UC-Banilad added BS in Commerce major in Managment Accounting in its list of programs.

March 2004

UC-Banilad's first batch of diploma holders graduated from Associate Courses.

June 2004

UC-Banilad started adding programs on Hotel and Restaurant Management, Education, Tourism and Criminology.

Community Extension Services and Development (CESDEV) was created.

Construction of UC-Banilad Phase 3 began

2006

UC-Banilad was awarded the bronze medal in the Cocktail Mixing and Pasta Noodle Cooking Contests during the Cebu Goes Culinary.

UC-Banilad ranked second in the top performing schools of Midwifery.

March 2006

First batch of bachelor's degree holders graduated from BS Accountancy, BS in Information Management, and Bachelor of Laws. The first graduation honored the first and only (as of this writing) Summa Cum Laude, Jon Kashmir Colipapa, a BSIT graduate.

Conferment of the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, on Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban

September 2006

Al-Shwaid Ismael, an LLB graduate, landed eighth place during the 2006 Bar Examination.

UC-Banilad ranked first in the Bar Examination passing percentage in Cebu.


2007

-

UC-Banilad College of Business and Accountancy Team became Champion in the Product Design and Business Plan Contests of the Pasigarbo sa Dakbayan sa Sugbu.

UC-Banilad produced its first batch of certified public accountants (CPAs).

Christian Llido, an LLB graduate, landed 10th place in the 2007 Bar Examination.

Jundell Castardo and Santonin Yu, BSN graduates, placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in the Nursing Licensure Examination.

CHEd recognized the BS Criminology of UC-Banilad.

 

-

PACU-COA conducted Level II third visit for the College of Nursing.

College of Tourism was hailed overall champion in the League of Tourism Students of the Philippines (LTSP) Summit.

Conferment of the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, on Dr. Axel Weishaupt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany

UC inked a memorandum of agreement with FastTrack Solutions, Inc. for the introduction of the SAP Business One in the College of Commerce and Accountancy curriculum of UC-Banilad, UC-LM, and UC-Main campuses.


2008

-

UC-Banilad College of Business and Accountancy Team was hailed as the national champion of the Best Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) in Makati City.

Miles Carciller, a BS Tourism student, became a finalist in the Cebu Pop Sensation of GMA-Cebu.

 

-

Paul John Gesta, a BSBA student, and Sheila Pelegrino, a BSED student, were crowned as the ambassador and ambassadress, respectively, of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).


2009

-

UC-Banilad produced its first batch of graduates in Criminology, HRM, Tourism and Education.

July 2009

Paul John Gesta, a BSBA graduate, became one of the Ten Outstanding Students in the Philippines (TOSP). He was awarded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacañang Palace. While Sheila Pelegrino, a BSED graduate, was one of the regional finalists of TOSP.

Edilyn Lopez, a BS Tourism student, was awarded as the Best University Student of 2009 in the Asia-Pacific University Students Gangwon Forum held in Gangwon, South Korea.


2010

-

Nicko Marco Wong, an ACT-Animation student, became champion in the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Animation Contest.

UC-Banilad garnered the silver medal in the Garden Wedding Category during the Cebu Goes Culinary.

January 2010

-

UC and International Business Machine (IBM) formally entered into a partnership for the Earn As You Learn (EAYL) scholarship program. The scholarship program is patterned after the same project with IBM and University of Balarrat in Australia.

February 2010

Jeni Medrano became an awardee of the IBM-Korean Government Scholarship Program for International Students for an Undergraduate Course.

Deniebell Borbon ranked ninth place in the Criminology Board Examination.


2011

UC-Banilad College of Business and Accountancy Team became champion in the Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment Project Season 1. They also became national winner in the British Council ''I am a Changemaker Award'' Social Enterprise Business Plan Contest.

College of HRM became the overall champion in the Quest for the Best, a Cebu-wide contest.

Jezreel Ezer Archival, a BSBA student, became the Philippine Youth Ambassador for the Republic of the Philippines (RP) - Korea Youth Exchange Program.

UC in partnership with the Australian Trade Training College (ATTC) offers international diploma for HRM in Commercial Cookery Level 3.

UC-Banilad College of Law Mooting Team won grand slam in the National Moot Court Competition held at Ateneo de Manila University. UC is the only law school in the history of the competition to win grand slam, sweeping all major awards and besting 16 other law schools in the Philippines.


2012

UC-Banilad College of Business and Accountancy Team became national champion in the National Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) and in the Obra Negosyo Eskwela Countryside Enterprise Business Upliftment Project Season 2.

UC-Banilad and and Japan's MomotaroKai Social Welfare Corporation partnered in the establishment of the Japanese Language Proficiency In Patient Care program.

Kedebon Colim, a BS Tourism student, and Jhelsea Flores, a BSHRM student, became finalists in ABS-CBN's X Factor Philippines, a nation-wide talent search.

PACUCOA conducted Level II fourth accreditation vist for the College of Nursing.

UC-Banilad College of Law Mooting Team ranked third place in the International Moot Competition on International Humanitarian Law in Hongkong. The team competed against 20 law schools from different countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jezreel Ezer Archival, a BSBA student, and Philean Mariz Canarejo, a BS Tourism student, are among the Philippine Youth Ambassadors the Youth-Exchange Project with Asia-Oceania and North America or the Kizuna (Bond) Project held in Japan.

Jezreel Ezer Archival, a BSBA student, was hailed as the Most Outstanding Cebu City Youth Leader and the Most Outstanding Jose Rizal Youth Model of the Philippines.

Though a first-time participant in the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition, UC-Banild College of Law Mooting Team ranked third in the National Qualifying Rounds held in De La Salle University, Manila.

Wilhelm de Leon, a BSA student, became the champion in the Sudoku inter-school contest of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation, Inc. (CeSAFi).

Christian Bacolod, a BSEd student, became first runnerup in the Green Fashion Revolution organized by the Aboitiz Foundation last August 3, 2013. He was also hailed as the People's Choice Awardee in the Cebu Young Designers Quest last August 27, 2013.

UC launched the construction of the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMC), a Level 4 General Hospital in North Reclamation Area, Mandaue City, Cebu.
