UC Law participates in Student Practice Rule roll-out

UC School of Law Dean Al-Shwaid de Leon Ismael, Professors Benison Harayo and Christopher John Menguito, Assistant to the Dean for Academic Affairs Atty. Kristine Joy Argallon, and student representatives Kevin Kromwel Kong and Kristine Marie Caminero attended the 2-Day Regional Roll-Out and Training Workshop for Central and Eastern Visayas on Student Practice Rule last March 5-6, 2020 at the University of the Visayas, Cebu City.

The Revised Rule is an amendment to the existing provisions of Rule 138-A of the Rules of Court which now allows a law student to engage in the limited practice of law subject to prior certification by the Supreme Court. The amendment ensures access to justice of the marginalized sectors, enhances learning opportunities of law students by instilling in them the value of legal professional social responsibility, and to prepare them for the practice of law. It also institutionalizes clinical legal education program (CLEP) in all law schools in order to enhance, improve, and streamline law student practice, and regulate their limited practice of law.
