A town hall meeting through the initiative of the University of Cebu (UC) School of Law Office ensued from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on December 6, 2018 at the Audio-Visual Room-1 of the UC-Banilad Campus. The UC President Atty. Agusto W. Go, the UC School of Law Dean Al-Shwaid L. Ismael, and other personnel of the campus had joined the said undertaking. The two-hour event was comprised of an expert-facilitated stress management seminar which highlighted the importance of mental health to law students, and an open forum between Dean Ismael and the law school students regarding the present concerns and plans for the law school.

Prior to the Town Hall Meeting proper, Atty. Go convened with the law school students. He shared his fondness towards the law profession and detailed his overwhelming experience of passing the Bar examination. Moreover, he expressed his unfaltering support to further develop the program. Some of the works in progress he had approved include the law school’s anticipated participation to the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the UC – San Sebastian College-Recoletos Master of Laws Consortium Agreement, and selected construction renovations inside the campus. He left the students with encouraging and inspiring thoughts in their journey to become lawyers, and a stimulating challenge not just to pass but to top the Bar examinations.

The Town Hall Meeting proceeded with a stress management seminar that allowed the students to acknowledge current or probable experiences of stress. Thereafter, the students were shared and trained with recognized mechanisms or exercises to help overcome said predicaments which may, however, vary for different individuals.

For the latter part of the undertaking, Dean Ismael announced the short and long-term plans for the UC School of Law. The short-term plans include upgrading the law school’s library by updating its sets of books and reference materials, providing additional computer units for the Lexis Nexis and CD Asia Online, and replacing round tables with study carrels among others, whereas, long-term plans include the institutionalization of UC Legal Aid and Law Center, the UC Bar Operations, Mandatory Continuing Legal Education, and UC Law Journal.

The Town Hall Meeting successfully concluded with the dynamic consultation between Dean Ismael and the students. Everyone was excited for the future of the law school under the guidance of Dean Ismael. This Town Hall Meeting was only one of the many similar affairs that the UC School of Law Office will organize for the law school students.
