UC Law partners with The Asia Foundation in increasing the public’s access to free legal services

The University of Cebu School of Law, through its Legal Advocacy and Research Clinic and the Legal Aid Office (UC LAO), formalized its partnership with The Asia Foundation (TAF) with a memorandum of agreement outlining various programs in support of strengthening and establishing a strong network of legal aid clinics in the Philippines.

The partnership is made possible through the “Strengthening Rule of Law through Legal Aid Clinics in the Philippines” program of the TAF to support the law school’s effort to fully comply with the integration of the Clinical Legal Education Program to the present curriculum, in compliance with Revised Rule 138-A, or the Revised Law Student Practice Rule promulgated through A.M. No. 19-03-24-SC by the Supreme Court of the Philippines (Revised Student Practice Rule).

With the partnership, UC LAO will work closely with TAF through mentorship sessions, advocacy trainings, and expanding the legal aid network through the referral system with other government agencies and law organizations, among others.

UC Law has started its compliance of the Revised Student Practice Rule with its 47 Law Student Practitioners with Level 1 Certification. Even before the Student Practice Rule, UC Law has incorporated experiential learning into its curriculum and also made Clinical Legal Education subjects mandatory for students in both Juris Doctor Thesis and Non-Thesis programs.

At UC Law, we make things happen, one initiative at a time.
