The UC School of Law, through its Legal Aid Office, made history as it launched its Online Help Desk tonight. In line with the UC Legal Aid Office’s vision to bring the law closer to the people, the Online Help Desk is a unique platform which aims to genuinely provide effective legal aid to the deprived, oppressed, and underprivileged; reach out to communities and impart basic legal knowledge and empower the people; and imbue social responsibility and civic consciousness as well as encourage volunteerism among students and alumni of UC Law.
Another first of its kind, UC Law also launched its specialized law clinic for the environment. In partnership with the Philippine Earth Justice Center, this project aims to mainstream environmental justice through green legal clinics and capacitate its lawyers and students. The Green Legal Clinic is also part of the law school’s implementation of its Clinical Legal Education Program.
The launch was attended by incumbent Dean Al-Shwaid Ismael, former Dean Baldomero Estenzo, UC Head of Legal and Finance and Professor Atty. Ria Lidia Espina, UC Legal Aid Office Director Atty. Christopher John Menguito, PEJC’s esteemed lawyer-volunteers, and UC Law students.
At UC Law, we believe that our commitment to bring the law closer to the people, our commitment to building a sustainable environment and society, and our dreams must continue, despite the pandemic. We adapt, evolve, and thrive.
