Another batch of law student practitioners from UC Law took their oath of office today
Forty-four students of the UC School School of Law took their Oath of Office as Law Student Practitioners (LSP) – Level II Certification under Rule 138-A (Law Student Practice Rule) of the Rules of Court before the Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Cebu City Hon. Marlon Jay Moneva today. Meanwhile, thirty-two other students comprising the second batch of LSPs from UC Law who applied for Level I Certification under the same Rule also took their oath.
Supreme Court of the Philippines Deputy Court Administrator for Visayas Hon. Jenny Lind Aldecoa-Delorino delivered the inspirational message and reminded the newly-inducted LSPs to “live a life of relevance”. She also emphasized that “[i]t takes a collaboration of educational and judicial systems to raise worthy lawyers”.
Under Section 4 of Rule 138-A of the Rules of Court, subject to the supervision and approval of a supervising lawyer, a Level II-certified law student practitioner may: (a) appear on behalf of the client at any stage of the proceedings or trial, before any court, quasi-judicial, or administrative body; (b) in criminal cases, subject to the provisions of Section 5, Rule 110 of the Rules of Court, appear on behalf of a government agency in the prosecution of criminal actions; and
(c) in appealed cases, prepare the pleadings required in the case.
UC Law’s vision, mission, and goals are aligned with the spirit behind the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), i.e., to provide a holistic training to the students and to prepare them not just for the Bar exams, but more importantly, for the challenges of real practice. In fact, UC Law’s CLEP is unique because it is integrated with its legal aid programs that aim to bring the law closer to the people, especially the deprived, oppressed, and underprivileged.
Today, we further put our vision, mission, and goals into action. We make things happen, one initiative at a time.
Congratulations to UC Law’s first batch of Law Student Practitioners for Level II and second batch of Law Student Practitioners for Level I! 💙💛
