UC law students took oath as law student practitioners

Another batch of law students from the UC School of Law took their oath as Law Student Practitioners for Levels I and II Certifications under the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) (Rule 138-A of the Revised Rules of Court) last Friday, May 20, 2022. The Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court of Cebu City, Hon. Marlon Jay G. Moneva, delivered an empowering message and administered the oath.

Present during the oath taking were EJ Moneva, UC Law Dean Al-Shwaid Ismael, UC Clinical Legal Education Program Supervising Lawyer and Legal Aid Director Atty. Christopher John Menguito, and UC School of Law Secretary Atty. Emi Rose Remoroza-Parcon.

The Supreme Court institutionalized the CLEP under Rule 138-A in order to enhance, improve, and streamline law student practice, and regulate their limited practice of law. The CLEP also ensures access to justice of the marginalized sectors, enhances learning opportunities of law students by instilling in them the value of legal professional social responsibility, and to prepare them for the practice of law.

UC Law’s CLEP is unique because it is integrated with its Legal Aid Programs which aim to bring the law closer to people, especially the deprived, oppressed, and underprivileged. Currently, it has more than a hundred law student practitioners for both CLEP Levels I and II Certifications.

At UC Law, we provide holistic training to our students and prepare them not just for the Bar exams, but more importantly, for the challenges of law practice. We also provide socially-relevant programs through an enabling environment for critical thinking, ethical consciousness, global competitiveness, and social responsiveness.
