UC law student attends summer school in France

UC School of Law 4L student Shergina Grace B. Alicando attended the Normandy Summer School last September 1-7, 2022 in Caen, France.

The Normandy Chair for Peace organized the said Summer School to encourage more people to participate in the global movement to push for and take environmental action, especially in mitigating the effects of climate change. Students from different parts of the world were invited to participate in a five-day summer course filled with interesting lectures. The theme for this year’s summer school is sustainable development and protecting the rights of future generations.

Respected speakers, including Atty. Tony Oposa, shared their insights on the intersectionality of environment and indigenous people’s rights, global politics, and socio-economic development.

As the sole representative of the Philippines selected to attend the said Summer School, aside from attending lectures, Ms. Alicando shared some of the environmental problems our country is currently facing, as well as the efforts of the government and non-governmental organizations in addressing these issues.

Ms. Alicando hopes that “more students would be interested in learning and promoting environmental law in the Philippines. Echoing the call of the Normandy Chair for Peace, there is no peace on Earth if we do not have peace with the Earth.”

At UC Law, we mold our students to be globally competent and prepare them for international opportunities. It is also our commitment to producing top-notch and socially responsible graduates.
