UC law dean participates in EDUTech Asia conference

UC School of Law Dean Al-Shwaid Ismael attended the recently concluded EDUTech_Asia Conference in Singapore as a member of the Philippine delegation led by Legal Education Board (LEB) Commissioners Salex E. Alibogha and Alexander D. Dumpa. 

Other members of the Philippine delegation were LEB Chief Operating Officer Aaron Marc Misa Dimaano, LEB Programs Unit Head Mr. Gabriel Matola, University of Southeastern Philippines Law Dean Arlene Cosepe, University of Makati Law Department Chair Angel Valero-Nuñez, and Ateneo de Naga University Associate Dean Vergenee Abrenica-Orillosa. The delegation wad also joined by Professor Tanya Lat, Executive Director of the Legal Education Advancement Program (LEAP), and LEAP Associate Directors Atty. Jian Manjares and Atty. Jelorie Gallego. 

The Philippine participation was supported through the LEAP partnership between the LEB and the University of the Philippines Law Center.

Dean Shwaid attended sessions and joined roundtable discussions on internationalization, enhancing student engagement through active learning, teacher competencies in a disruptive age, instilling a culture of innovation, and artificial intelligence in education, among others. According to Dean Shwaid, it’s about time that we understand the impact of globalization and technology on legal education and embrace digital transformation. He also discovered new concepts such as “learning agility,” how routine jobs are now being phased out, and the most important skills that students need to learn for the future— mental agility and digital ability.

EDUTech_Asia is Asia’s largest conference participated by more than 7,000 attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and start-up companies. The three-day conference offered a series of engaging and interactive events that showcased best practices and the latest technology and innovation in education.
