UC Law participates in country’s first clinical legal education program summit

The UC School of Law participated in the recently concluded Philippine Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) Summit held in Manila, Philippines.

With the theme CLEP at the Frontline: Paving The Way Forward For Greater Access To Justice Through Clinical Legal Education”, the first ever three-day CLEP Summit was participated by more than 100 on-site, and over 300 online, attendees.

Dean Al-Shwaid Ismael and 4L student Claire Marie Rojas represented UC Law. Dean Ismael was also the Summit’s master of ceremonies, while Ms. Rojas presented her paper on “Bringing the Law Closer to the People: An Analysis on the Impact of CLEP to the Communities that We Serve” during the breakout sessions on Day 2 of the Summit.

Today, over 100 UC Law students attended the Orientation on CLEP facilitated by UC CLEP Supervising Lawyer Atty. Christopher John Menguito in UC Banilad. At present, UC Law has approximately 100 certified Law Student Practitioners.

At UC Law, we recognize the importance of experiential learning. Our students learn the law not just in the classroom but also outside through the communities served by the law school’s CLEP programs. We bridge the gap between theory and actual practice. We teach the law by serving, and making it accessible to all.
